Emma Stone Responds to Uncomfortable Oscars Mix-up

It’s the Oscars mix-up that will go down in history.

Shortly after it was revealed Moonlight, not La La Land, was the Best Picture winner, Emma Stone responded to the controversy backstage.

Holding her new Best Actress award in her hand, the 28-year-old star gushed about the Miami-based film that nabbed the top honor.

“I’ve always dreamt of this kind of thing but again not in a realistic context and for that I f—ing love Moonlight, god I love Moonlight so much I am so excited for Moonlight and of course it was an amazing thing to hear La La Land,” she said. “I think we all would have loved Best Picture but we are so excited for Moonlight. I think its one of the best films of all time so I was pretty beside myself.”

However, she wasn’t so sure she believed Warren Beatty‘s explanation of what really happened on stage when La La Land was mistakenly named the winner.

“I was also holding my ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’ card that entire time,” Emma explained. “I don’t mean to start stuff but whatever story that was, I had my card.”

PricewaterhouseCoopers, the accounting firm responsible for counting Oscar ballots, revealed what really led to the Academy Awards snafu in a statement.

“We sincerely apologize to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture. The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred.”

We’re still cringing.
