Nicole Richie was sentenced to four days in jail today following her arrest for driving the wrong way down a freeway.
But she won’t even have to serve all that time. Glendale Superior Court Commissioner Steven K. Lubell knocked off six hours for time already served.
Nicole pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs this morning in a plea bargain deal. She was fined $2,048, placed on probation for three years and ordered to take a 21-day alcohol education course. She has to serve her jail time by September 28.
She arrived in court in a black dress, heels and sunglasses. She appeared to have a small baby bump. In Touch has previously reported that she is expecting a child in the new year.
Boyfriend Joel Madden was in the courtroom with the Simple Life star. He had his left hand on her leg throughout the hearing. While taking her seat in court, Nicole, 25, cradled her stomach.
“Young lady, someone could have been killed,” Lubell told her. “We don’t want you or anyone else to be hurt. This is very serious.”
Lubell warned her about driving drunk again, telling her that if she were to kill someone she would likely be charged with murder, not manslaughter.
Nicole was arrested shortly before 5 a.m. on December 11 after she was stopped on the Ventura (134) Freeway in Burbank. After the arrest, she admitted she had taken Vicodin and smoked marijuana.
