Less than one week after rapper Nelly was arrested for allegedly raping a woman, his accuser is no longer pursuing legal action against him. The woman, whose name has yet to be released, announced that she wants to drop the charges and stop the criminal investigation against him in a letter via her lawyer, Karen Koehler.

“We do not live in a society where a 21-year-old college student can feel safe enough to pursue criminal charges against a celebrity for an alleged rape,” she wrote in the letter, obtained by TMZ. “One day, maybe our world will change and 30 women will not be needed to (eventually) speak against a celebrity who has hurt them in order to be believed. But that day has not yet come.”

Last week, law enforcement officials told TMZ that a woman claimed she was raped by Nelly on his tour bus in Washington, where he performed with Florida Georgia Line on their joint tour Friday, Oct. 6.

The website reports that the hip-hop star was booked on second-degree rape charges early Saturday morning and is still in custody. A rep for Nelly has yet to respond to TMZ’s request for comment. However, Auburn Police Department confirmed in a statement to The Blast that Nelly,42, had been arrested.

“At 3:48 AM a female called 911 to report that she was sexually assaulted by a male, who is known as the rapper ‘Nelly,’” a spokesperson for the police department said. “The alleged assault was reported to occur on the tour bus that was parked at the listed location. Nelly had performed at the White River Amphitheater just hours before.”

Nelly took to Twitter on Saturday, Oct. 7, to address the scandal. “Let me say that I am beyond shocked that I have been targeted with this false allegation. I am completely innocent. I am confident that once the facts are looked at, it will be very clear that I am the victim of a false allegation,” he wrote in a series of tweets. “I do want to apologize to my loved ones for the embarrassment and for putting myself in a situation where I could be victimized by this false and defaming allegation.”

He added, “I also want to thank my fans for their unwavering support. They know me. I assure you I will be vindicated. And I assure you, I will pursue every legal option to address this defaming claim. Thank you…In other words y’all know damm well I ain’t do no dumm S^*t like this..!! Love ..!!!!”

This isn’t Nelly’s first brush with the law. Back in April 2015, he was arrested after several weapons and a multitude of drugs were found on his tour bus. Police found the stash when the Tennessee Highway Patrol stopped to check the bus because it failed to display a U.S. Department of Transportation and International Fuel Tax Association sticker. Officers found methamphetamines, marijuana, and handguns.

At the time, Nelly took to Instagram to apologize to his fans for the incident. “Although I am unable to speak to the legal specifics and my attorney has put out a preliminary statement, I feel the need to take responsibility for my choices in needing to be more aware of all the people I associate with,” he wrote, “and allow onto my property while committing to making better choices moving forward.”

The “Ride Wit Me” hitmaker added, “While my instinct, of course, is to be accessible to my friends, fans and acquaintances, the last thing I would want to do is compromise the respect and admiration of friends, family and fans. #KNOWDAT!!!!”
