Throughout the third season of TLC’s show My 600-lb Life, fans have caught up with the obese stars who have shed the weight and turned their lives around. But tonight, Feb. 4, will feature the season’s first new participant — who is clearly prepared to get a new lease on life.
In an exclusive clip obtained by ‘In Touch Weekly,’ 24-year-old Amber meets with a counselor about her decision to undergo surgery and get her life back on track.

Weighing in at 657 pounds, the Portland, Ore. native realizes how much she regrets the years she spent unable to stand and being largely dependent on her parents and boyfriend — so she decides to take action.
“I really feel like I wasted my whole youth being immobile and massive and too fat to even enjoy it,” she laments in the episode. “I’m really mad at myself — like, why did I let that happen?”

Of course, there’s not much that can be done about her past — so instead of wallowing in her misery, Amber finds resilience in her decision to reroute her future.
“I think of myself as a failure, but I’m becoming the person I want to be — and that person is not a failure,” she says. “The second I decided to do something about my life, I changed. And I am not going to fail at this.”
