‘Megan Wants a Millionaire,’ ‘Buckwild,’ and More Reality TV Shows That Called It Quits After Real-Life Tragedies

Earlier this week, news broke that Bachelor in Paradise wouldn’t be canceled despite it being suspended amid allegations of sexual misconduct on set. However, that wasn’t the case for these other reality shows that experienced real-life tragedy while filming.

Over the years, VH1’s Megan Wants a Millionaire, MTV’s Buckwild, and Discovery Channel’s Lone Operator have all been canceled because of tragic real-life circumstances. Watch the video below to get the full stories.

Back in 2009, Megan Houseman had failed to find romance with Bret Michaels on VH1’s Rock of Love. Luckily, VH1 was willing to give her another chance with her own show called Megan Wants a Millionaire.

After only three episodes had aired, one of the contestants, Ryan Jenkins, was wanted for questioning by police. The show was suspended out of respect while the matter was looked into, but it wasn’t long before Jenkins, who’d made it into the final three, was charged with the murder of Jasmine Fiore, a woman he’d married soon after being eliminated from the show. The police found Jenkins had committed suicide, and Megan Wants a Millionaire was officially canceled.

So will Bachelor in Paradise be canceled like the other three shows? This season’s cast has already been sent home, so we can’t imagine that this season will air, but many are speculating that the show may be done for good.

“I am a victim and have spent the last week trying to make sense of what happened on June 4,” shared Corinne Olympios, one of the contestants involved in what’s now alleged to be a sexual assault. “Although I have little memory of that night, something bad obviously took place, which I understand is why production on the show has now been suspended.”
