Shortly after it was reported that Mob Wives star Big Ang was to have surgery to determine whether or not a tumor that was found in her throat was cancerous, the reality star has received the dreaded news: It is in fact malignant.
‘TMZ’ claims to have spoken to the 51-year-old’s sister, Janine Detore, who tells the site the “lemon-sized” tumor is on her larynx and her voice is deteriorating as a result.
She says they’re now waiting for test results to determine whether or not the cancer spread.

Janine notes that there’s no history of cancer in their family, but they fear that Ang’s 42 years as a smoker may have contributed. Doctors have ordered the VH1 star to ditch cigarettes ASAP.
In the past, the owner of Staten Island’s Drunken Monkey bar has acknowledged her troubling nicotine addiction.

“I [quit] every year for like two months and then I go back,” she previously told NJ.com. “I don’t want to smoke, but I just can’t help it.”
While Ang was working on another reality TV project when the tumor was discovered, nothing related to her health scare has been filmed for ‘Mob Wives,’ though Janine says it may be addressed on the show in the future.
For now, Ang’s family is rallying around her and staying positive. Janine tells ‘TMZ,’ “We are hoping for the best and are focusing on getting through the holiday. We love the fans and want to thank them.”
The mother-of-two is expected to have surgery to remove the tumor next week.
