Everyone—from her father, to the inventor of the foam finger, and seemingly every celebrity—has shared his/her thoughts on Miley’s racy performance at MTV’s Video Music Awards. And now, Miley is finally sharing her own opinions on the drama surrounding her VMA performance.
“I don’t pay attention to the negative,” she told MTV a few days after the show. “How many times have we seen this play out in pop music? Madonna’s done it; Britney’s done it.”

The former Disney Channel star explained it’s often the goal of performers to get people talking and “make history”—which she insists she and Robin did that night.
“Me and Robin the whole time said, ‘You know we’re about to make history right now,’” she told MTV.

And what does Miley think of the constant criticism and non-stop coverage of her performance? They’re just “overthinking it.”
“You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it,” she said. “I didn’t even think about it, because that’s just me.”
