Riding on an oversized hot dog, twerking alongside character-stuffed animals and provocative poses on stage – there’s one thing we’ve been missing out on during Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz tour.
During the song “SMS (Bangerz)”, a two-and-a-half minute-video is played featuring animated drawings of Miley as a Ren and Stimpy character.
And who better to provide the cartoons than the mastermind behind the Nicktoons' hit 90s show?
“Audiences like the idea of innocent mediums being edgy,” animator Johan Kricfalusi tells NY Post in a recent interview. “That was part of the appeal of ‘Ren & Stimpy.’
"It’s the same appeal with Miley. You would think of her as a child star, and here she is getting away with all this stuff.”
The collaboration started when Cyrus and her team sought him out. After John watched her music videos online – Wrecking Ball was his favorite – he sat down with the 21-year-old singer at Chateau Marmont to try to capture her essence.

Kricfalusi compared Miley’s face to “Boo-Boo, Yogi Bear’s sidekick” and said her “tongue was an important part of her personality.”
“It seemed like she was as weird a performer as I am a cartoonist, so it looked like a good match,” he adds.
Miley is set to perform at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Saturday, the same place she famously rubbed against Robin Thicke during her VMA Performance last August.
