The Duggar family is officially about to grow by one member—because Derick Dillard has popped the question to Jill Duggar!

The exciting news comes just a few weeks after the couple announced their courtship, which the Duggars consider to be “dating with the intention of marriage.” However, their pending nuptials are official now that 25-year-old Derick has gotten down on one knee—and did so in a very romantic way!

The proposal occurred on March 29 when Jill and Derick decided to take a walk with sisters Jana and Joy. The 22-year-old didn’t question why her sisters kept their distance—or why a stranger in the park asked to sing a love song to the young couple.

By the second verse of the song, Jill recognized that the song was about her and her husband-to-be.

“I shared how much I loved her, how I couldn’t imagine life without her and I asked her, ‘Will you marry me?’” the accountant recalls of the moment he dropped to one knee with the custom-designed, white-gold ring complete with a .63-carat diamond.

With a ring on her finger, Jill could not be happier about the future.

“I am so happy,” she gushes. “Our story is very unique. The first time we talked, he was in Japan, we met in Nepal, he spent time in India and Israel and then came back to Arkansas where he met my family. We have a very international story even though we live so close.”

To celebrate the proposal, the newly engaged couple treated themselves to some much-anticipated physical contact and very mild PDA.

“We decided to wait to hold hands until we were engaged and to have our first kiss on our wedding day,” Jill explains. “We want to save the physical side of our relationship for our wedding day and not go further than we should.

“I feel like I’m dreaming,” he gushes. “It was great to grab her hand for the first time.”
