In an episode of 19 Kids and Counting — airing tonight, March 10, on TLC — Michelle Duggar gets candid about how she overcame an eating disorder after struggling with bulimia in high school.
“Before I came to know the Lord, I had been, um, struggling in my self-worth,” she says in a clip released ahead of tonight’s episode.
“Just feeling like, you know, I needed to measure up to all my friends. And I just really began to have a wrong view of who I was and felt like, you know, I gained weight so easily.”

From there, she says she picked up a “bad habit” of making herself throw up after she ate.
In the clip, an old friend from high school was shocked to learn about Michelle’s struggles, though the mom-of-19 has always been transparent about her journey with her kids.
Her daughters — Jana, Jill, Jessa and Jinger — even wrote about it in their book, ‘Growing Up Duggar.’
Today, Michelle says she has a positive body image and a healthy outlook in regards to her diet and exercise.
