Real Housewives of New Jersey star Melissa Gorga is fighting back against allegations from some women's websites that her new book, Love Italian Style advocates marital rape. The 34-year-old mother of three says that her relationship and sex advice book's words were taken out of context, and that she and her husband Joe have a happy, healthy relationship.
In particular, she took aim at the feminist website Jezebel, which referred to Melissa a "sex slave," and claimed that the book was a "cry for help."
In an exclusive interview with In Touch, Melissa defended herself. "I knew that some of the more traditional roles and ways Joe and I run our marriage would be controversial. However, the passages that Jezebel used were deliberately twisted to create shock and push the reviewers own agenda.," she said.
As for the claim that she supports husbands raping their wives: "Who in their right mind would advocate something so horrible?" she asked. "You've got the wrong girl. I'm a strong woman and Joe is a wonderful husband and father. It's sad that the real message of my book - mutual love, respect, honesty and keeping your spouse and family first in your life has been overshadowed by this."
And said, Melissa, she urged readers to come to their own conclusions about the book -- by reading it themselves. "I stand by everything that is written in Love Italian Style. People should read the book before they judge it."
