20 Years of Girl
Power: Melanie "Mel
C." Chisholm (AKA
Sporty Spice) Hints At
a Possible Spice Girls
When they said “Viva Forever,” it turns out the Spice Girls may have really meant forever!
Melanie Chisholm—better known as Sporty Spice—recently opened up about the possibility of a Spice Girls reunion to mark two decades since the girls got together.
“It’s funny isn’t it because people are saying it’s the 20 year anniversary of the Spice Girls,” Mel C. recently told reporters. “We did get together in ’94, but ‘Wannabe’ wasn’t released until ’96 so we don’t really see it until ’96. And you might just see a few of us having a little dance about on stage, no plan, but we’ll see what we can do for you.”
Oh. My. Freakin’ God! We are all for a Spice Girls reunion… even if it means waiting two more years.
If the girls get together in 2016, it wouldn’t be the first time they’ve had a reunion since taking a hiatus in 2000. In 2007, the gal kicked off “The Return of the Spice Girls” tour, which was their first tour since “Christmas in Spiceworld” in 1999.
Then, in 2012, the girls did it again when they came together to kick off the 2012 summer Olympics in London by performing at the opening ceremonies.
Unfortunately, any future reunion would be inherently different—because Victoria Beckham has said in the past that she has put the Spice Girls behind her (which is likely why Mel C. said you might just see “a few of us”).
“I won’t ever do it again,” Posh told Vanity Fair Italy. “Doing the Olympics was an incredible honor. I was proud to do it, proud to be British… that the perfect time to say, ‘That’s great. Thank you to everybody, but no more.’ Sometimes you’ve got to know when it’s time to leave the party.”
