As the old saying goes, like father, like daughter.
Byron Schlenker, 57, and Emily Schlenker, 14, each hold the Guinness World Record for widest male and female tongue.
So how did they figure it out? Byron decided to measure his tongue after he discovered the original record holder’s was 7.9 cm wide. He jokingly had his wife take measurements and realized his topped that at 8.3 cm!
"I get stopped by people at the grocery store or when I'm out in town to take a picture. I have had people come to my house to sign their record book. I even had one lady who asked me to lick her Guinness Book, which I politely declined,” the Syracuse, N.Y., native told ‘Barcroft TV.’ "I've loved the attention so far. Most people are just surprised I can talk normally.”
They then decided to measure Emily's, considering they knew hers was pretty large. Lo and behold, she had the widest female tongue!
But the young girl, whose tongue measures in at a whopping 7.3 cm wide, is much more reserved about her bragging rights.
"She's keeping her mouth closed — no pun intended. I think she's a little embarrassed to stand out as it is, but she's prepared for everyone to know and will enjoy the attention. Her close friends are very excited for her,” Byron explained.
