The hit reality show Married at First Sight returns Apr. 20, and we have a sneak peek at the cast of the 2017 season! Also, see which relationship experts are returning to the show.
Since its 2014 premiere, the show, which bills itself as a "social experiment," has been a surprise hit. The premise is simple: Six singles, who are desperate to get married, are matched up with the help of relationship experts. Once the couples are matched, each pair attends a wedding ceremony where they marry their new partner after only meeting for a few seconds. Some couples don't even get to exchange names until the reception!
So why would anyone sign up for this show? As crazy as marrying a stranger sounds, some couples have successfully managed to make it work. Although confrontational and often criticized for failing to do proper background checks on past participants on the show, the series has successfully paired three couples so far who are still married today, one of which are expecting a baby!
"When I saw my stranger husband, there was no chemistry, no butterflies," season one participant Jamie Otis said, who's still married to matched husband Doug Hehner. "Immediately I was like, 'This is a big mistake.'...But I stayed committed to it, and I'm glad that I did. It's like that thing, like when you're meeting a blind date that you don't think is attractive at first? My advice to women out there is maybe give them a second date because my husband is amazing. If I turned away, I would have missed out on the love of my life."
Season five takes place in Chicago, and relationship experts Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Rachel DeAlto, and Pastor Calvin Roberson are all returning. Click through the gallery to meet the the rest of the 2017 cast! Can you guess who will be matched with whom?
What She's Looking For in a Husband: She wants a relationship that's similar to her parents, who are still married. Other things she's looking for is a partner who's smart, funny, athletic, and isn't afraid to be the "man" in the relationship. She's frustrated with dating apps and hopes the show can find her "the one."
