Lena Dunham Asked
Women Why They Use
Birth Control — And
Got Back Some Powerful
Lena Dunham has never been shy about exposing herself, but this time, she’s asking fans to get personal as well.
The star and creator of Girls took to Twitter to explain why she uses birth control — to curb the pain caused by Endometriosis, a health disorder that occurs when cells from the lining of the uterus grow in other areas of the body — and asked others why they use birth control.
Many were eager to share their reasons — and the resultant conversation was powerful.
@lenadunham otherwise I faint, get sick and cant leave my house - it helps me manage it, or it would disrupt my life.— Niki Rokicki (@nikirokicki) July 23, 2014

@lenadunham Because I'm not financially prepared for another pregnancy/child.— Sarah (@amazonflwrchild) July 23, 2014
In typical Lena fashion, she also managed to sneak in a joke during the raw and frank discussion of contraception.
“Oh, one other reason I need birth control: cuz once when I was menstruating real bad I said, ‘My grandma only likes me cuz I’m on TV,’” she tweeted.
