Leah Messer Reveals How She Felt About Daughter Aleeah Being Tested for Muscular Dystrophy

This is what no parent wants to go through.

Leah Messer has been open about her daughter Ali’s health struggles since Teen Mom 2 began — but on a recent episode, it was revealed that her other daughter Aleeah Grace, or Gracie, could be at risk as well.

Dr. Tsao, Ali’s longtime specialist, gave the mother-of-three a tough decision to make when he recommended she bring Ali’s twin sister in for genetic testing. In an emotional phone call to a friend, Leah talked over the advice she was given.

“I just got back from Columbus, they said that [Ali] was getting stronger and she was doing fine,” Leah said. “They actually want to get Gracie tested for MD as well, so I’ll have to take her back up there and they’ll have to do blood work and then we’ll know.”

Ali suffers from a rare genetic form of muscular dystrophy and, considering the twins share DNA, there’s a possibility that Gracie could be at risk for the same disease.

“She’s a child of Corey and I’s, and we carry the gene,” Leah explained to her friend. “She hasn’t been tested. We thought that she had been tested, but I guess that was for some other testing research. The possibility of her even having it is worrisome to me.”

When Leah gave her ex a call to give him a health update on their daughter, she promised to not “overthink” Gracie’s testing and get her checked as soon as possible.

Though Leah and ex Corey Simms were understandably worried about the medical procedures, Leah was sure that her daughter wasn’t the least bit nervous. “She’s excited that she actually gets to go to Columbus with us this time,” she said. “She never gets to go.”

In an interview with MTV News, Leah revealed what was really going through her head at the doctor’s office.

"I felt pretty positive when Dr. Tsao asked about getting Gracie tested for the muscular dystrophy gene," she said. "I felt pretty confident that she didn't have it, so I wasn't too worried about it."

The 24-year-old isn’t always so calm, cool, and collected, though. In a recent episode, Leah broke down in tears when discussing her daughter’s declining health. The famous mom and her friend Maddy had an intense conversation revolving around Ali’s illness while on vacation.

“No matter what, I may never see the decline that they see,” Leah said with tears in her eyes. “I guess I’ll handle that when it comes you know? It made it hard at 17, knowing something’s wrong with this baby that you love so f–king much.”

While Leah’s relationship with the twins’ father has been rocky, it’s clear that the duo is willing to work together in order to coparent their daughters in the best way possible.
