Laura From ‘My 600-lb Life’ Now: See Her Incredible Weight Loss Journey!

TLC’s My 600-lb Life has aired some of the craziest weight loss transformations we’ve ever seen. One of the most drastic was of Laura Perez, whose episode aired in 2015. Though she once weighed in at 541 pounds, what she looks like now is absolutely breathtaking.

The 42-year-old’s journey to eventually dropping over 300 pounds completely changed her life, and on My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?, Laura shared the many effects her drastic weight drop had on her life. While it might be easy to assume that getting healthy could only have positive implications, Laura revealed that shedding the pounds came with some complications.

As Laura’s weight came off, her life went from sedentary to active. She went from not being able to even stand for long periods of time to being able to cook, clean, and do everything necessary to sustain herself.

“I can do so much more now,” she said. “I try not to depend on anybody anymore.”

This independence, however, made Laura’s marriage suffer when her husband Joey, who had been her primary caretaker when she was morbidly obese, didn’t feel necessary in his wife’s life anymore.

“The better I get, the worse my relationship is getting,” Laura said. “[Joey] acts a little different, like ‘Oh, you don’t need me.’ I had told him, ‘I need you to support me not take care of me.’”

Since Laura’s life was once lived mainly in one place, her home, she depended deeply on Joey to do chores, run errands, and take care of her. And though Laura was the one to undergo a metamorphosis, Joey was still forced to deal with their changing relationship.

“I feel like I’m on the sidelines,” Joey said. “She don’t need me as often and I feel a little scared I’m going to lose her with all the changes we’re going through.”

Even amid Joey’s fear, Laura assures that she has no plans to leave her husband.

“I try to explain to him that I’m not going to leave just because I can do on my own,” she said. “He’s been there these 13 years and I don’t want nobody else.”

Adjusting to this drastic change must be hard, but we hope the duo will work out their differences.
