Lamar Odom reportedly checked into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility on Wednesday.
Now insiders are speculating that the basketball player’s decision was a bid to save his career — not his marriage.
“Last I heard, if he was going to agree to get help it's purely to save his career, not because Khloé wanted him to,” an insider tells In Touch. “His people, mainly his agent and lawyer, told him it's the only way to get out of the DUI and save his career and keep a possible spot on the Lakers.”
This isn’t the first time substance abuse has interfered with his professional career. In 2001, he faced two separate suspensions after failing to comply with the NBA’s anti-drug policy.
Additionally, addiction plagued Lamar’s family before the reality star’s troubles came out; in the 2011 season premiere of Khloé & Lamar, the NBA free agent opened up about his father Joe's issues with drugs.
“It’s hard for me to speak up on it and get it through to Khloé because she grew up so different,” he said at the time.
Khloé and Lamar’s disconnect doesn’t end there. The insider reveals that Khloé is more than just far removed from Lamar’s treatment — she may have nothing to do with it.
“They are all keeping it very quiet, I don’t even think Khloé was a part of it because none of her people seemed to know he was already checked in,” the insider says.
