Lamar Odom’s Daughter Opens up About Holding an Intervention for Her Dad

For the first time, Lamar Odom’s 18-year-old daughter, Destiny, is opening up about not only the horrific time in her family’s life when her father almost died following an overdose at a Las Vegas brothel, but also the ultimatum she gave him that may have saved his life.

In a new essay, Destiny says it was a school night that she got the call that her father was in the hospital — and she flew out west to say goodbye to her dad. During that first visit, the teen spoke to her dad for 30 minutes, even though he was unconscious, a decision she thinks may have helped save him.

“The next morning, he was ripping tubes out of his mouth and I don’t really think that’s a coincidence,” she writes. “I think he was meant to be here because of me and my brother. It sounds like a cheesy movie, but I think that everything happens for a reason.”

Once he was eventually doing better, Destiny and her brother Lamar Jr., 14, decided to host an intervention with some of their closest family friends.

“I basically gave him the ultimatum that it was rehab or me not speaking to him anymore,” Destiny reveals. “I think that hit him really hard.”

Lamar checked in rehab last December, and was released early this year. Since getting clean, Destiny says he’s like a different person.

“When your parent is an addict and they get clean, it’s like a whole new world,” she gushes. “A whole new person, really. It’s crazy what therapy and rehab can do to a person. He’s just a lot more clear and in the moment and he’s more apologetic. He’s able to see more the pain that he’s caused when he’s clean.”
