While Khloe Kardashian thought it was a good idea to wear a Native American headdress to North West’s “Kidchella”-themed birthday bash, little did she know it would spark such outrage.
In an Instagram pic, Khloe is sitting on the grass, next to a teepee, meditating while wearing a huge Indian Chief feathered headdress—which is actually in the backyard of Kourtney Kardashian’s Calabasas home.
“Ray of clouds. Chirping of birds. Gurgling of water. Granting desire. One with water. #Kidchella my first Coachella!!!” the 29-year-old reality star captioned the pic.
After sharing the photo on Instagram and Twitter, she immediately received backlash from some of her nine million followers.
“Just a little rude and disrespectful!!! Headdresses are for a ceremonial purpose and NOT A COSTUME!!! Just a little Tacky,” user @mamisteph11 said while @kanyeonce mentioned, “What is it with celebrities not understanding cultural appropriation.”
Another user, @urbanrezlife, commented, “#WeAreStillHere #WeAreNotCostumes #NativeAmerican Please educate yourself about our culture&traditions.”
Meanwhile, @weaselchild25 wrote, “Wow very disrespectful, especially on #AboriginalDay. Headdresses are earned and not a costume.”
Khloe, who flew from the Hamptons with Kourtney to attend the bash, has yet to comment on the controversy.
North’s first birthday party included a huge Ferris wheel, cotton candy machines and performers among other things. The guests who attended received a bunch of goodies including bandanas, moccasins, temporary tattoos and custom-made Yeezus T-shirts.
