It's official! Just in time for the hotly-anticipated release of her new album, Prism, Katy Perry has passed fellow superstar Lady Gaga to become the most-followed woman on Twitter.
The "Teenage Dream" singer hit 39.8 million followers this month, but that still makes her only the second most followed person on the entire social network - Justin Bieber still reigns supreme as #1. The rest of the top five are President Barack Obama and Taylor Swift.

It has been a very busy week for Katy. In addition to announcing her new album's release date, she is reprising her role as the voice of Smurfette in The Smurfs 2, joining Britney Spears for her song "Ooh La La," and releasing her third perfume, Killer Queen.
Katy sent a gold-painted semi around LA to promote Prism and has promised fans that she'll retweet anybody who posts a Twitter pic of the vehicle.
