Too soon? Katy Perry seemingly threw shade at Britney Spears on the Grammys red carpet — and fans were not too happy with the "Firework" singer.
Ten years after Britney's infamous breakdown, which included the troubled pop star shaving her head, Katy, 32, made light of mental health in an interview with Ryan Seacrest.
When asked by the former American Idol host about her hiatus between albums, Katy responded, "That’s called taking care of your mental health."
However, she got into trouble when Ryan asked how her break went. "Fantastic — I haven't shaved my head yet," she added.
"It's called taking a break for your mental health" "how'd that go?" "Fantastic haven't shaved my head yet" oh Katy👀 pic.twitter.com/0etksbbgD1— Common Gay Boy (@CGBPosts) February 13, 2017
She also made reference to Britney's shaved head while speaking to Nancy O'Dell about her new platinum bob, and having tried every hair color except a shaved head.
As expected, fans were quick to call out Katy's faux pas — and Twitter exploded with the hashtag "#KatyPerryIsOverParty."
"Katy Perry mocking Britney on the red carpet. Not cute! Good luck with that new single, sis," one viewer wrote before another added, "Don't throw shade at Britney 2. Don't make fun of mental illness 3. Don't do it on TV."
Britney, 35, recently opened up about her breakdown, and how much better she is feeling nowadays.
"I like my 30s way more than my 20s,” she told Britain’s ITV. “My 20s were horrible! [Being] in my teens was fun, but I like my 30s.”
She continued, "I’m in a really good place right now. I’m loving myself every day and learning who I am. It’s awakening, it’s cool."
Katy, who is currently dating actor Orlando Bloom, went on to perform her new single, "Chained to the Rhythm" at the awards show, so we'll have to wait to see if she responds to her controversy.
