Katy Perry recently revealed that she toyed with the idea of suicide after her split from Russell Brand. The singer wrote the song, "By the Grace of God," which details her struggle with depression during that difficult period of her life.
“I wanted to share that side of my story, because I know there are so many other people out there that have gone through things like that, and you always feel like you’re the only one going through that," she said during an interview with Australia's "The Project." "I definitely was looking for answers, and during that time I wrote that song. And yeah, I was depressed, and it was sad, and there were thoughts, but there were never actions, thankfully."
The song includes lyrics like, "I looked in the mirror and decided to stay, wasn’t gonna let love take me out that way."
The pop star admitted she was in a "darker place" while working on the track. Other songs from the "Prism" album include "Unconditionally" and every single girl's anthem, "Roar."
Since her breakup with the comedian, she has been linked to John Mayer, Riff Raff and Diplo — the DJ she's been reportedly on and off dating for the past few months.
Earlier today, she took to Twitter to wish him a happy 36th birthday:
