He infamously interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, but during this year’s star-studded ceremony, Kanye West patiently waited his turn. The egocentric rapper took the stage with Katy Perry to accept the Best Collaboration award for their sci-fi video “E.T.” and he allowed the songstress to take the microphone first.
"Now, this is a time when you want to interrupt me, Kanye," Katy said in front of the audience, clearly taking a dig at her pal - but Yeezy let her finish! “Thank you to God, Katy Perry for being so brave and letting me back on the record,” he later said. Kanye earlier wowed the crowd as he performed his single “Otis” with his Watch the Throne collaborator, Jay-Z.
Another big winner of the night included Lady Gaga, who won Best Female Video and Best Video with a Message for her single “Born This Way.” The eccentric singer spent the night in character, presenting herself as her male alter ego, Jo Calderone — even hitting on a shocked Britney Spears, who won Best Pop Video for her dance hit “Till The World Ends.”
