This Christmas Eve, a creature was stirring - Justin Bieber, who went on Twitter to announce that he is retiring from music.

The news shocked Beliebers all over the world, who hoped that Justin might be kidding around. So far, though, the 19-year-old has stuck to his guns and maintained that he means it.

It's understandable that the "Baby" singer might want to relax and take a break for a while, considering that he's been a star since he was just a tween. Canada-born Justin first shot to fame after his YouTube videos took off. Next came a working partnership with Usher, huge tours, multi-platinum albums, and endorsement deals for everything from perfume to sneakers.

However, like many teen idols before him, Justin has also experienced some of the down sides of fame. Following his split with girlfriend Selena Gomez, Justin embarked on a world tour and was repeatedly dinged for bad behavior, including having to abandon his pet monkey in Germany and reportedly being kicked out of a brothel in Brazil. He also took criticism for visiting the Great Wall of China and being personally carried up by his bodyguards.

Is Justin Bieber Headed to Rehab?

For brokenhearted Beliebers, there is one small consolation: the documentary Believe, which follows Justin on his latest tour and features intimate interviews with the singer, opens in limited release today.
