Julia Roberts Tells
Marie Claire Why She
Won’t Be On Social
Media Any Time Soon
Recently, a lot of a-listers—like Cameron Diaz and Katie Holmes—have been flocking to Twitter to connect with their fans, but there is one superstar you won’t see tweeting anytime soon: Julia Roberts!
The December cover girl opened up to Marie Claire and revealed why you won’t find her Tweeting, or on joing any other social network anytime soon.
“It’s kind of like cotton candy,” she told the fashion mag. “It looks so appealing, and you can’t resist getting in there, and then you just end up with sticky fingers and it lasted an instant.”
Okay—we totally get her strangely beautiful and mostly accurate metaphor—but it’s like she forgot to mention the part where cotton candy is also really delicious and addictive!
Of course, unfortunately with the sweet, sweet melt-in-your-mouth part of cotton candy—Julia, 46, is also quick to admit there’s a very sour side that comes with the territory of the Internet—which keeps her away from Googling herself, too.
“There’s an anonymity that makes people feel safe to participate in hatefulness,” she explains. “I like a good old-fashioned fistfight if people are pissed off at each other. I just feel like if you’re really made and want to have a fight, then your dukes up.”
So what does the Oscar winner do while the rest of us are too busy tweeting and documenting our meals? Hang out with her family, of course!
“It’s my privilege and honor to cook three meals a day for my family, and it’s a luxury that I didn’t even realize, because it can be relentless for me on some days. You have pride in how you take care of your family.”
Julia and her husband of 11 years, Danny Moder, have three children together; twins Finn and Hazel, 8 and Henry, 6.
