When it comes to Juan Pablo Galavis—who has been dubbed “the most controversial Bachelor”—it seems everybody has an opinion.

Of course, few have been in the position of dating multiple partners for the sake of reality TV—but those who have, like Bachelorette alum Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum, still have trouble justifying his scandalous onscreen behavior.

Ashley, who exclusively revealed her first pregnancy to In Touch Weekly Wednesday, says she wasn’t “pissed off”—just frustrated with how Juan Pablo handled the situation.

“I want to like people so bad. For me, it was frustrating because I always look for the good in certain people and towards the end, I was like, you’re giving me nothing to hold on to here,” the mom-to-be tells the mag. “I wanted it just to work out for them. It just turned out bad and it was portrayed poorly.”

Her husband of more than a year also tried to be forgiving—especially knowing the ins and outs of the editing process.

“I try not to take what I see too seriously because it’s only a fraction of what goes on… You don’t know what else was said and done,” JP explains to In Touch. “I was a little frustrated because there was no opportunity for him to vindicate himself and put all of the haters and doubters to rest. But, for the most part, we didn’t see everything. If he’s happy, then it’s great.”

While he tries to be understanding of the situation, there is one part of Juan Pablo’s act JP definitely disapproved of.

“Him being disrespectful, I can’t get on board with,” he tells the mag.

Juan Pablo Galavis and Nikki Ferrell Fake It For the Cameras!

They aren’t the first Bachelor alums to speak out about Juan Pablo’s unusual end to the season. When the single dad asked to keep his personal life and his relationship with winner Nikki Ferrell private, newlywed Sean Lowe criticized the Venezuelan-born star.

“I commend [Juan Pablo] on not proposing if he isn’t ready. And he certainly shouldn’t feel pressure to say, ‘I love you.’ However as the Bachelor, you can’t say I want to keep my feelings private,” Sean wrote on Twitter. “You owe it to the fans and network to open up. That’s the job.”

While some don’t think Juan Pablo and Nikki’s love will last—he hasn’t proposed or even said I love you yet—JP and Ashley made it clear they’re rooting for them. And, as one of the franchise’s most popular and successful pairs, even offered guidance to the new couple.

Ashley says she gets “PTSD” [post-traumatic stress disorder] when watching the show, and says she feels for Juan Pablo because of the harsh criticism he faces regularly.

“Just don’t let people break you down. When I was on the show, I was so sad and depressed all the time because people were so nasty,” Ashley tells In Touch. “I started to get worked up. I feel for him and how people are on him. I would tell him to be strong and move on.”
