They say hindsight is 20/20 — and to many Duggar fans, the old adage has proven to be true, especially when it comes to Josh Duggar’s troubling past. As fans of Counting On know now, the father-of-five may have been preaching “family values” and embodying his family’s conservative, fundamentalist ways — but behind closed doors, he was living a lie. In May 2015, In Touch exclusively revealed that he was found guilty of molesting his younger sisters, and months later, he admitted he was addicted to pornography, confessing he cheated on his wife, Anna.

But were there clues to his problematic behavior all along? That’s the question many Duggar fans on reddit answered, when they pooled their knowledge of the Duggar’s reality TV franchise and asked each other about “hints” that something may have been “off” about the way the eldest Duggar child, 29, carried himself and his business early on in 19 Kids and Counting’s run — check out the video below to see what “clues” they came up with.

To his credit, Josh was always the first to admit his hypocrisy when it came to the life he kept hidden — albeit, not well-hidden, as the reddit fans clearly indicate. When he first sought treatment after it was discovered that he secretly had an account on Ashley Madison, a dating service designed to help people in committed relationships cheat on their significant others, he released a statement in which he admitted guilt.

“I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the Internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife,” he said at the time. “I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living and am grieved for the hurt, pain, and disgrace my sin has caused my wife and family, and most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him.”
