When Jewel walked the red carpet at the Academy of Country Music Awards on April 7, you’d never know she was once terrified of situations just like that.
“I used to have severe panic attacks,” she confessed to Sweden with Love. “I remember one time arriving at the MTV Video Music Awards and not being able to get out of the limo. The driver kept unlocking the door and I’d just lock it again. I did it over and over!”
“I’ve always been shy and introverted,” the singer admits in the blog’s May cover story. “It’s something I’ve struggled with all my life.”
At the awards show, the 38-year-old rocked the red carpet in a coral Georges Chakra Couture dress and later hit the stage to perform as part of the Lifting Lives segment. “It was probably the first time at an awards show that I felt relaxed!” she confesses.
Jewel credits motherhood and her one-and-a-half-year-old son, Kase, for making her feel, “more comfortable” in her own skin. “It puts everything in perspective,” she says of parenting. “I feel more at peace.”
So is the "Hands" songstress ready for more kids?
“I’m very happy with one,” she says. “But we’ll see!”
