In a book made popular for it’s risqué themes and unconventional relationships, mom isn’t exactly the first thing to come to mind—well, unless you count all the moms reading E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey!
But today the two go hand-in-hand, as it was announced that Zero Dark Thirty actress Jennifer Ehle signed on to play the role of Carla, Ana’s mother, in the big screen adaptation of the popular book!

The 43-year-old actress will be joining Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam, who are taking on the much-coveted roles of Ana Steele and Christian Grey.
While on screen and in book, Ana’s mom is a little ditzy and self-centered—with “the attention span of a goldfish”—real-life Dakota’s mother, Melanie Griffith, could not be more different.
She seems supportive of her daughter, despite the racy nature of her daughters upcoming project.

While Melanie may be a “#proudmama” there has been significant backlash over the casting of the Fifty Shades movie—with some fans even taking action with a petition.
