Things have been rough between Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans and her mother, Barbara Evans — and it all has to do with their custody arrangement over Jenelle’s seven-year-old son, Jace.

In Touch reported last week that the mother-of-three would now be able to spend time with her son on weekends, holidays, and during the summer months while Babs continues to hold primary custody — and in a new interview, Jace’s grandmother explained her side of the story.

“I just want people to know that I’m not trying to keep Jace away from my daughter. I have to protect him from certain situations. I don’t hate my daughter,” Barbara told Us Weekly. “All of this was because I love Jace. Jace has a great life at my house: He’s going to school — he finishes in a couple weeks — he has friends now, he’s in Boy Scouts and he’s going to summer camp! He’s so excited for that.”

“I think that in the end, our whole family will be very happy. My main concern was that my daughter and I would have a very drawn out court battle, and luckily that was not the case. I love her and don’t want to fight with her in a courtroom! It actually went much more smoothly than I could have hoped,” she added.

Jenelle, however, has made clear that perhaps she could be a little happier with the outcome.

“I’m really happy we could come to a decision for Jace but it doesn’t change my feelings towards my mom. She still isn’t giving up my son to me but I will fight again in the future when the time is right,” she revealed last week. “I’m happy but devastated at the same time that I didn’t take it to trial. But in the world of Jenelle, you learn to pick and choose your battles.”

Jenelle also shares a two-year-old son, Kaiser, with Nathan Griffith and a four-month-old daughter, Ensley, with her fiancé, David Eason.
