In the new issue of In Touch, Golden Globe winner and Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez says she was once told she’d never make it in Hollywood because of her curves.
“We’re told by images that if we don’t look a certain way, we’re not beautiful. I was told I’d just always be a character actress, not a lead actress,” Gina says.
“I had such big dreams,” she says, “but I didn’t have the stereotypical look and body shape.”

“I worked out like crazy and then I also did the opposite, thinking I am just going to eat this and this — but I was hurting myself by not being healthy. Weight has been a challenge since I was diagnosed with thyroid disease at 19. I can’t just work out and be a size 2. But I refuse to try to live in that world!”
Gina eventually found her confidence. “I battled the images that I was constantly bombarded with and then I battled what was looking at me in the mirror … [Finally I realized] that my body is beautiful the way it is.”

“I’m a strong, independent woman who wants love and a family and success just like everybody else,” Gina adds.
