In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, James Van Der Beek has now spoken out against sexual abuse in Hollywood. The Dawson’s Creek alum, 40, took to Twitter on Thursday, Oct. 12, to let fans know that he had once been targeted by older men in showbiz. To see what he had to say, check out the video below.
James’ admission comes days after The New York Times published a bombshell report about allegations of sexual harassment made against Harvey, 65, by several actresses, including Ashley Judd. Since then, other female A-listers, including Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow, have come forward with their own accusations. Harvey offered a lackluster apology — in which he quoted a JAY-Z lyric — but has since been fired from his position at the Weinstein Company. Additionally, his wife, Georgina Chapman, announced on Tuesday, Oct. 10, that she is leaving Harvey after nearly 10 years of marriage.

James isn’t the only male star who has claimed to be a victim of sexual misconduct after Harvey’s alleged indiscretions were made public. On Tuesday, Terry Crews recounted his own experience in a series of emotional tweets. "This whole thing with Harvey Weinstein is giving me PTSD. Why? Because this kind of thing happened to ME. My wife n I were at a Hollywood function last year n a high level Hollywood executive came over 2 me and groped my privates,” the actor, 49, wrote.
“Jumping back I said What are you doing?! My wife saw everything n we looked at him like he was crazy. He just grinned like a jerk,” Terry continued, adding that he let it slide because he wanted to avoid a troublesome altercation. "'240 lbs. Black Man stomps out Hollywood Honcho' would be the headline the next day. Only I probably wouldn't have been able to read it because I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN JAIL."
Though he is happy to share his story now, Terry said that he understands why it’s hard for others to say something. “I understand and empathize with those who have remained silent. But Harvey Weinstein is not the only perpetrator. Hollywood is not the only business we're this happens, and to the casualties of this behavior — you are not alone,” he concluded. “Hopefully, me coming forward with my story will deter a predator and encourage someone who feels hopeless.”
