James Van Der Beek is mourning his late friend, actor Ron Lester.
The 45-year-old star passed away on Friday, June 17, after a long battle with liver and kidney issues. Now, James is remembering the icon, who rose to fame as Billy Bob in the 1999 cult classic film Varsity Blues.
"Sad day... #RonLester was a sensitive soul with a huge heart," James wrote on Twitter. "Everything you loved about Billy Bob was authentically Ron. #RIP bud."

"I'll never forget how committed #RonLester was on every take - even when the camera wasn't on him... #giving #rare," James continued.
The two starred together in the coming-of-age football movie, and Ron went on to appear on Not Another Teen Movie and Good Burger.
The actor had been hospitalized since February and was taken off life support early Friday.
