When Selena Gomez suddenly cancelled her Asian and Australian tour, many feared that the 21-year-old singer might be headed to rehab.
However, it seems that the real reason is lupus, the auto-immune disease that the former Disney star was reportedly diagnosed with a few years ago. The disease causes swelling, joint pain, and sometimes rashes.
"Selena has been going full throttle the past few years and her Lupus is really catching up with her right now," a source told the music website Popdust.com. "She knows that she needs to take some time to address the disease and look after herself better if she wants to live a full and healthy life."
Although Selena hasn't confirmed whether the chronic disease is behind her recent troubles, it's clear that the hardworking brunette could use a break. On December 6, the Spring Breakers star was uncharacteristically rude at a Jingle Ball concert and stormed off stage after sound problems. She later apologized.
And Selena isn't the only celebrity affected by lupus. Nick Cannon has been vocal about his diagnosis with the disease and has encouraged people to be better about testing and educating themselves. Though the condition currently has no cure, it is manageable.
