So — is she or isn't she?! Katy Perry, 32, took the stage as this year's host of the MTV Video Music Awards and Billy Eichner from Billy on the Street decided it was the perfect time to confront her about one of Hollywood's most talked about conspiracy theories — is the pop star actually JonBenét Ramsey?
Back in 1996, the six-year-old was found strangled to death in the basement of her home in Boulder, CO. Over 20 years later, her murder is still unsolved, and for whatever reason, this has fueled speculation that the young beauty queen's death was actually faked, and she instead grew up to be the famed "Swish Swish" songstress.
In December 2014, a YouTube video of the theory was posted by Dave Johnson but recently started gaining attention again. In the video — which has since been deleted — he stated, "JonBenét Ramsey did not die, nobody died, nobody got hurt." He added, "But she was sacrificed: That sacrifice was in name only, and that sacrifice was to get something, and that something was to become a star. JonBenét Ramsey became Katy Perry. That's a fact," he continued. "So if any of you continue to lie about this person dying, you are in fact a false witness to murder and death."
After years of speculation, Billy confronted the question head-on. He shouted, "Blink twice if you're really JonBenét Ramsey!" In response, she said, "No, that is not real." Yet the Twittersphere had a lot to say — and unfortunately, not much of it was positive. One person wrote, "Why's no one talking about that comment about JonBenét Ramsey with Katy Perry, messed up..." Another added, "JonBenét Ramsey was found dead in her basement at the age of six and to joke about it on live TV is sh-tty. I hate Katy Perry & she is scum." Ouch. Although she shut down the rumor, we're sure we haven't heard the last of this theory.
