In keeping with American Idol tradition, last night's pivotal semifinal show was a night of high drama and a few sour notes. "Cry Me A River" could have been the evening's theme song, as Idol hopefuls shed tears of elation and heartbreak upon learning their fate as the judges selected their 24 semifinalists out of a pool of 50 contenders. The biggest surprise elimination was Josiah Leming, an early favorite who was done in by his cockiness, and that terrible cover of "Stand By Me." Who was left with the high hopes of following in the footsteps of past Idol champs Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks and Jordin Sparks? The 12 lucky men, who begin to battle it out on stage next Tuesday night, are David Archuleta, Colton Berry, Robbie Carrico, Jason Castro, David Cook, Chikezie Eze, Garrett Haley, David Hernandez, Michael Johns, Luke Menard, Danny Noriega and Jason Yeager. And the lucky ladies, who hit the stage the following night, are Joanne Borgella, Kristy Lee Cook, Amy Davis, Asia'h Epperson, Alexandréa Lushington, Kady Malloy, Ramiele Malubay, Syesha Mercado, Amanda Overmyer, Carly Smithson, Alaina Whitaker and Brooke White.
