The real stars of the 2018 Golden Globe awards were real activists! Several celebrities chose to ditch their moms or their husbands for the evening to bring along people who really deserve the spotlight. The results? Pure inspiration! From the creator of the #MeToo moment to the director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance and more, the actress’ guests were meant to bring attention to the new Time’s Up movement and fund. The new organization is backed by hundreds of people in the entertainment industry and aims to demand fair treatment of women in the workplace. Stars also wore black dresses and pins, but the presence of the activists was certainly the most poignant statement of the evening!

The cause was also at the center of many speeches from the big night. Reese Witherspoon gave a tearful speech about getting rid of sexual harassment while accepting an award, and Oprah Winfrey used her platform while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille award to bring attention to victims of assault and women of color. Such an inspiring evening!

Michelle was at the Golden Globes to be honored for her work in the film All the Money in the World, but she chose to take a step back and let her guest Tarana Burke use the spotlight for a good cause. Tarana is the creator of the #MeToo movement, and she's also the senior director at Girls for Gender Equity. The two posed with activist Monica Ramirez at the star-studded event.

Emma Stone brought Billie Jean King

Emma's activist guest may have been the most famous of the night. Legendary tennis pro Billie Jean King was the person Emma portrayed in Battles Of The Sexes. It was only right for Emma to bring the feminist icon, since playing her got Emma nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

Laura Dern took Monica Ramirez along

Laura was more than happy to take a step back to let Mónica Ramírez, the co-founder of Alianza Nacional de Campesinas, shine at the Globes on Jan. 7. The foundation is "a national organization comprised of farmworker women and women from farmworker families to ensure that they would have a place at the decision-making tables and that they would lead the charge to set the agenda for the issues that are most important to them and their communities."
