The actor's body was found at Vancouver's Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel on Saturday.
"We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate," his rep tells In Touch in a statement. "We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss."
According to reports, the Canada native was found around noon. When he didn't check out from the hotel, staff went to his room and discovered his body. Police believe he was alone at the time of his passing.
It's been two months since the actor completed his second stint in rehab for substance addiction. In an interview with Parade magazine, Cory opened up about his longtime battle.
"I’m not Finn Hudson," Cory said of his beloved Glee character. “I’m lucky on so many counts—I’m lucky to be alive.”
In the interview, the actor explained he first sought treatment at 19 when his family and friends held an intervention.
“That’s when I first went to rehab. I did the stint but then went back to doing exactly what I left off doing," he shared. “I stole a significant amount of money from a family member. I knew I was going to get caught, but I was so desperate I didn’t care. It was a cry for help. I was confronted and I said, ‘Yeah, it was me.’ It was the first honorable, truthful thing that had come out of my mouth in years.”
His co-star and girlfriend, Lea Michele, has yet to issue a statement, but fellow Gleek Dot-Marie Jones has taken to Twitter to express her sadness over the loss.
