Last night, July 6, the head coach for the Florida State Seminoles’ football team dismissed freshman quarterback De’Andre Johnson after footage of a June 24 altercation, during which the 19-year-old football player can be seen punching a woman, was released.
De’Andre was also charged with misdemeanor battery after the Tallahassee Democrat published footage of the fight yesterday.

In a statement released to TMZ by his lawyer, Jose Baez — yes, the same guy who famously defended Casey Anthony and George Zimmerman — the promising athlete says he’s “extremely embarrassed” for his role in the bar fight, with his lawyer adding, “He is currently participating in community service and faith-based programs focused on battered women, substance abuse, and the empowerment of children.”
While De’Andre stands by his statement of remorse, a rep for the QB also tells TMZ the woman he struck initiated the incident, using racial slurs such as the n-word before he laid a hand on her.
The rep tells the site the teen athlete bumped into the woman, at which point she said, “Get off me you f--king n----r.”
