Jedidiah Duggar — the 16-year-old star of 19 Kids and Counting — has come under fire by fans of his family’s reality show after they posted a picture of the teen posing with a gun on their official Facebook page.
While many fans defended the reality star and his right to bare arms in the comments accompanying the pic posted Dec. 26 — just four days before Jedidiah’s 16th birthday — others criticized Jim Bob and Michelle’s choice of gift.

“Oh dear. Only in America is it appropriate to give a kid a gun for Christmas,” one fan wrote. Another added, “I could go on for quite a while [about] why this is soooo wrong.”
This isn’t the first time the conservative family has ignited a controversy with their love of weaponry. Earlier this year, Jessa, 22, was caught in a social media storm when she posed with a rifle.

In 2011, John David received backlash when a photo of him posing with two large guns circulated on the Internet. In the face of criticism, the Duggar patriarch, Jim Bob, reiterated their emphasis on gun safety and education.
At the time, he said, “We believe it is important for children to learn safety about guns and knives and to learn how to use them properly and to learn not to use them to hurt others, but to use them as a tool.”
