Accessory: Mom! Aaron
Paul, Lena Dunham
Bring Mom on the Red
There was one must-have accessory at the Emmys last night that you may not see on any best dressed list—a mom!
“[My mom is] just so incredible and has always been so supportive,” Aaron, 34, said of his mother Darla, who sparkled in a green dress. “Literally threw me out of the house when I was 17 and was like, ‘Good luck!’”
“No, no, no she always knew I wanted to do this, and so I chased after my dreams,” he added. “She was always there to support me.”
Lena Dunham has always been candid about her close relationship with her parents, including her artist mother Laurie Simmons.
“But [my parents] also just always made me feel pretty and cool and smart, even in the moments when I have known – and still know – that my body wasn't fitting into a traditional Hollywood idea of the female body,” she told Marie Claire UK last month.
But Laurie made it clear in an interview with Vanity Fair that the feelings were mutual.
“I thought she was a pretty exceptional kid,” Lena’s mom said. “Then I would tell myself, ‘Well, isn’t that what every mother thinks about their exceptional child?’ But she was just a really cool kid.”
Kerry told Glamour that although she's always been really close with mom and dad, her parents initially didn’t want her to be an actress, fearing she’ll face too much rejection. After seeing all her success, they unsurprisingly changed their minds.
“Now they’re really behind me,” she said and added with a laugh, “And I’m always working. My cousins call me the long shoreman of actors.”
