Since finding her confidence, Demi Lovato was able to open up about her painful past. In an emotional ballad, “Father,” the singer is bolder than ever and reveals her troubled relationship with her late father, Patrick Lovato.
In a recent behind-the-scenes video, Demi discussed her feelings regarding the passing of her father back in 2013. “I was very conflicted when he passed because he was abusive,” adding, “He was mean, but he wanted to be a good person… He wasn’t capable of raising a family, and it was because of his mental illness."
She continued, "To know that it wasn’t fully his fault really was saddening to me, and I wanted to write about it. I wanted to process it.”
