On Oct. 28, the Parenthood star appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he joked about his courthouse wedding to Kristen.
After Dax poked fun at Jimmy Kimmel’s extravagant wedding—claiming that there were helicopters and salads of money—the newlywed explained that they went a different route.
“So we went to the Beverly Hills courthouse, and all in—with feul—it was $142 out the door,” Dax boasted.
“Friends of ours came to the courthouse, and it was just Kristen and I at this lonely court house,” he revealed to the host. “So they brought us this cake afterwards, ‘Worlds Worst Wedding.’ How many people can say they threw, ‘The World’s Worst Wedding?’”
The couple, who has been engaged since 2010, had famously decided to delay their nuptials until California legalized same-sex marriage (which they did in June); they explained they didn’t want to marry until marriage equality was reality.
Dax and Kristen began dating in 2007, and became engaged in 2010 when he surprised her during the holidays. However, after DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) was ruled unconstitutional, the Veronica Mars actress popped the question again on Twitter, writing, “@daxshepard will you marry me? Xo #marriageequality #loveislove.”
In March of this year, the pair welcomed their first child, a daughter named Lincoln and made their nuptials official at the court house on Oct. 17.
