The father-of-two, 41, recently sat with Jason Ellis for an interview on his eponymous radio show, The Jason Ellis Show, and opened up about being molested by an 18-year-old neighbor when he was only seven-years-old.

“It was minimal,” the Parenthood star told the host — who has been candid in the past about being sexually assaulted by his own father. “It wasn’t anything like what you recounted. But even at that, it took me 12 years to tell anyone that.”
Kristen Bell’s husband said that he not only blamed himself for being a victim, but he also had “all these insane thoughts,” including suspicions that he was gay and, in his own words, “I must have manifested this because I’m secretly gay.”
Dax — who has been open about his struggle with substance abuse and alcoholism — explained that his mother (who works as a court-appointed advocate for foster kids) helped him understand the correlation between his past and his struggle with addiction.
“If you’ve been molested, you only have a 20 percent chance of not being an addict,” he said she told him. “And I was like, ‘Hmm, interesting,’ because in my mind, I just like to f--king have a great time. But when you hear a statistic like that, I’m like, ‘Oh no, I was going to be an addict. Period.’”
