Featherweight Daniel Franco was once signed to JAY-Z’s sports division of Roc Nation, appropriately named Roc Nation Sports. But the 25-year-old is speaking out, revealing that he has resorted to using a GoFundMe to crowdsource his medical bills following a career-ending injury — after which, he says, Hov’s sports management group left him high and dry.

Since the injury, Daniel has undergone four brain surgeries and has already racked up $200,000 worth of medical bills. In the GoFundMe started by his father, Al, it is revealed that Daniel is in a rehab facility that is costing way more than the family can afford.

“As you are all aware, Daniel has gone through two major brain surgeries along with follow-up surgeries after his knockout loss on June 10. After spending nine days in a coma, it is a miracle he is with us today. According to his doctors, who repeat that it is a miracle he made it past the first week, we believe that your prayers helped,” the fundraiser states. “He is now at a rehabilitation hospital in California which is a miracle in itself. Now that we are seven week into this tragic accident, we are aware of what our insurance costs will be and what they will cover. For his very first day at the hospital, we received a bill for $185K, We hope that with your help, we can share this page and continue the prayers. His immediate care for the next six weeks will average $1,200 per day. After that, we are unsure of what will come next. We know it will be at least a year before things get a little more steady for him.”

Daniel’s family has been using the fundraiser to update his fans on the ongoing issues they’ve had with Roc Nation. In an update posted 10 days, his father said that Roc Nation said they’d “be there” for the family, and asked that no one does any interviews. However, in the most recent update — from yesterday — Daniel’s father reassured fans that they have “not heard a peep” from JAY-Z’s sporting leg of his company.

However, as Roc Nation failed to keep their promise, Daniel has opted to give interviews. In a video for The Blast, he spoke with slurred speech as he called on JAY-Z to take action, saying the company has not “been true to their word, and they haven’t been great people,” he confessed. “They left me out there to dry.” Watch his emotional plea below.
