Sex and the City fans got a treat on last Monday’s episode of Showtime’s hit show The Big C, when Cynthia Nixon made her first guest appearance. In the episode “Happy Birthday, Cancer,” Cynthia turned up as central character Cathy’s (Laura Linney) flaky college friend, who ended up getting down and dirty with Cathy’s filthy, homeless brother Sean (John Benjamin Hickey) at her birthday bash. This week she is back for more.
Since winning the role of Sean, John has taken the character to heart and tells In Touch, “Playing this part on The Big C, I literally wouldn’t bathe all week long. Laura Linney has told me I am getting too method and have to take a shower.” John also let In Touch in on a little secret – this is not the first time he and Cynthia have locked lips. The two actually go way back.
“I have known her for almost 20 years,” he tells In Touch, “and interestingly, the first character Miranda slept with on Sex and the City was me! I played the Catholic playwright who would always shower after sex, as he thought it was dirty. So doing what I have to do on The Big C, it was like – ‘Eh! You again?’ Cynthia went through so many guys on SATC, but she reminded me I was the first man she slept with. Yes, Miranda’s first sex scene was with me.”
As Sean, John is constantly dirty on the set, but he somehow manages to make homeless look hot. So which John does Cynthia prefer – showered or stinky? “She likes me smelly,” he laughs. “She actually told me, ‘You are good, Hickey. You aged well, like a fine cheese, smelly but tasty.’”
The Big C airs Monday nights on Showtime.
