The bounty hunter, Jackie Shell, was dispatched to serve the late singer a warrant after he failed to appear in court for charges stemming from a fourth alleged DUI offense, officials from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed.
Authorities with the TBI say they have launched an investigation into the incident.
The late singer — who shared the stage with greats like Willie Nelson and Hank Williams Jr. — was best known for his song, "All American Redneck."
