A Royal baby is on the way!
Buckingham Palace/Clarence House officially announced today that Kate Middleton and Prince William are expecting their first child!
"Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby," the official statement reads. "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news."
The statement also mentions that the pregnant dutchess was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London earlier today, suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum (very acute morning sickness). They also claim the pregnancy is in its "very early stages," and the dutchess will remain in the hospital for several days, requiring a period of rest thereafter
Last week, In Touch revealed insider information from a longtime friend of Kate’s, who claimed the couple would announce their pregnancy in December. “I have it on the highest authority,” Jessica Hay, Kate’s friend admits. Jessica also told In Touch that the royal couple began trying for a baby earlier this year and “[Kate] was told in May to put on weight.”
As for future childcare, Jessica claims the parents will be very hands-on, as Kate has always been very maternal and Wills plans to step down from the Royal Air Force early next year, which will give him more time at home.
“William is much like Diana and will definitely be a hands-on dad and not rely heavily on nannies to raise his and Catherine’s children,” she tells In Touch. “They both try to be as normal as possible in their private lives, and that of course is going to continue when they have children.”
The new baby will become third in line to the throne, following Prince William and Prince Charles. The baby also will bump William's brother, Prince Harry, down a notch in the sequence.
Congratulations to the expecting parents and their family!
