The X Factor is officially ending its three-season run, leaving us with one less singing competition show we have to keep up with.

Fox confirmed on Friday that the series will not go forth with Season 4, which was the same day producer Simon Cowell announced he’s leaving the U.S. show to return as a judge on The X Factor UK.

Cowell took to Twitter to share his emotions with fans: “Today was a day of mixed emotions. Excited to confirm me returning to the Uk X factor and sad to leave America. You realise how much you owe to the fans who have supported all of the shows we made in both countries.”

Cowell added, “We found some amazing talent. And now the search begins to find the next star. That's why we make these shows.”

What started as a hit show in 2011—12.57 million viewers watched the finale—slowly became one of the not-so popular singing competitions two years later. An estimated 6.22 million viewers watched the Dec.19th finale in which Alex Kinsey and Sierra Deaton won.

"Unfortunately, there is no X Factor USA without Simon Cowell," Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company said in the statement.

"But we understand and support his decision to focus on the international formats and on the next phase of his personal life. We wish him the very best, and it’s our sincere hope that we work together again soon."

Joining the British producer in the judges’ panel included some of the biggest names in today’s music world. L.A. Reid and Nicole Scherzinger were part of Season 1. Britney Spears joined Season 2 along with Demi Lovato. The final season took on Kelly Rowland and Mexican pop singer Paulina Rubio.
